Nuts and bolts of ultralight angling

This book is written by a technically-oriented angler who has established a number of world records using light line tackle. While few of us are likely to duplicate his feats, I was very impressed with the technical details about things like rod action, line twist and hook types which you do not see in many books. He also has a lot of good hints about choice of lures, use of bait and customizing small boats for fishing which I found very interesting. This was one of the best technique-oriented fishing books which I have read in quite a while. I also enjoyed the many anecdotes that he shared throughout the book.

Aoife Marie Sheridan has loved reading from a very young age, starting off with mills and boon's books, given to by her grandmother her love for romances grew, by the age of 14 she had read hundreds of them. 

Aoife had a passion for writing poetry or in her eyes her journal entries. It was something she did throughout her teens and into her twenties. Aoife won first place for two of her poems and had them published at a young age of just nineteen. Realising she needed to get a real job (What writing isn't) she studied accountancy and qualified working in that field for many years, until her passion for reading returned and she found Maria V Snyder. Poison study one of her favourite books has been read and re-read countless times. 

Aoife's first book Eden Forest (Part one of the Saskia Trilogy) came to be after a dream of a man and woman on a black horse jumping through a wall of fire and the idea of Saskia was born. Now with her first novel published and taking first place for Eden Forest with Writers Got Talent 2013, Aoife continues to write tales of fantasy and is currently working on her third book for the Saskia Trilogy amongst other new works. Loved it, a great fantasy read.

I loved the first book in this series, and was a bit upset at the time that I had to wait so long for the 2nd, as I was impatient to wait, as I really needed to know what happened next. I just love Tristen, and still do in this book.

This book didn’t disappoint at all, I really loved it. There was some action and suspense too. It was a very entertaining fantasy with a gripping and unpredictable plot.
I loved all the surprising twist and turns. It kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

The biggest shock is the ending, which makes me really wish I had the 3rd book now.

I highly recommend to fantasy lovers out there. It’s a great series.

5 out of 5 stars for me.

Action-packed and thrilling. Truly an interesting read!

This is going to be a brief review. I’m really not a big fan of fantasy novels. I guess there’s just some few fantasy book that I really really liked and reading fantasy novels, for me, is either a miss or hit. I guess fantasy books somehow overwhelm me and makes me lost in the book in a negative way, which makes me lose interest in reading it.

Well, I’m happy to say that City of Secrets is definitely a hit. I really enjoyed reading it! The characters were amazing and well written. The concept was really new for me which is a good thing.

Another thing I liked is the chemistry between Sarajane and Tristan. I just knew from the start that they are going to have a great chemistry since the first book.

It’s action-packed and thrilling, with bits of romance and drama on the side. Overall, it’s a very great read!

Sheridan takes you away with her brilliant descriptive writing

Aoife brings us along on Sarajane's adventure. We start with Sarajane and friends going to meet her father. Tristan is training her for what struggles may lie ahead, but will it be enough?

This is not my normal read but after the first book I had to read the next and look forward to the continued journey (warning this one ends with a cliffhanger).

Come along on this adventure, twist and turns you don't see coming, battles, mystery and some serious training. Ms. Sheridan takes you away with her brilliant descriptive writing. I would highly recommend this book and series to any YA reader, as well as those who love a great adventure story. Become part of the adventure! Fall in love with her characters and hold your breath as they struggle to survive

Much better than kthe vast majority of books on leadership

First, let me provide a disclaimer or two. I know the author well. I also maintain the TOC booklist on TOCICO so on two counts I am probably biased. This is my 2 cents anyway.
Excellent book! Kevin has a winner here. Easy to read and overflowing with great advice. As I read Kevin’s book, I saw the linkages to Goldratt’s theory of constraints. He has provided a lot of common-sense guidelines to people wanting to be better managers and to lead an organization to its goal. I have long seen the disconnections among achieving the organization goal, leadership and teamwork and the many “teambuilding” activities recommended in most business books. If a leader and his/her team are able to identify and address core problems that hinder achieving the organization goal with win-win solutions then that builds a winning team. Kevin identifies the core problem as Alignment and Engagement. He then provides concise definitions for each term and provides a framework to focus on your goal (making more and more money if you are a for-profit business) by:
Alignment with the goal and across the organization
Engagement to bring out people’s best and
Connecting teamwork to the bottom line
Kevin has built the CRTs for misalignment and low engagement for the reader and provides a concise narrative of the major symptoms of both core problems to assist the reader in determining the correct core problem and how to address it.

If this was a baseball game I was reviewing, I would tell you that Kevin has hit a grand slam!! I love the way Kevin has explained the importance of teamwork and how the team must be aligned and engaged. If you are having problems getting your team focused, read this book! If you are having problems generating enough profit, read this book!! What I liked most about Kevin's book is his concept of Profit Boosters in that he brilliantly weaves in basic methods to increase profitability. This is one book that all Plant Managers, GMs, CEO's, Supervisors, etc. must have in their reference libraries. Great job Kevin!!

Great characters!

I can't believe this book is out of print, and I can't believe it was published in the 1970's. I read it as part of a review I'm doing on gay and lesbian fiction for young adults, and it is definitely one of the best I've read. I was a little disappointed with the lukewarm ending, but over all, the book's vermisimilitude is very impressive, and the courage of its message is considerable considering its time. The characters are the most believable I've encountered in most YA literature.

70's setting, but timeless questions

This book was first published in 1978, which I didn't realize when I ordered it. It reminded me very much of books by Norma Klein, which I read growing up in the eighties (they also featured upper-crust Jewish teens who have interactions with liberal adults). However, it has aged gracefully, due to the fact that there are almost no pop culture references and the focus is on two adolescent girls' friendship and the narrator, Val's, confusion when she starts wondering if she feels anything more for her best friend, Chloe. The girls' activities: gossiping about classmates; hanging out in coffee shops and thrift stores; and indulging in minor adolescent mischief, are pretty much the kind of things teens have done for decades. Some of the attitudes could be described as dated, but I think that would depend on where you live.

Val and Chloe bond over being the new girls at their private single-sex school. They feel like outsiders among their debutante-to-be classmates, although gradually, they're revealed to be pretty well off. They both want to be artists when they grow up, and they both have a lot of curiosity about sex and romantic relationships. Over the course of the book (it's quite short), they will deal with the death of a loved one, attention from much older guys, and their mutual attraction. Val is lucky enough to have sympathetic adults to turn to, in order to help sort out her feelings, but she finds that they aren't as comfortable about giving her advice as she expected. In the end, it's up to her to decide what to do.

I really liked Val's relationship with her mom, though because of the time period, Mom is smoking like a chimney while she and Val have their heart-to-hearts. I thought the friendship, with all its ups and downs, was very believable. However, I was hoping for more of a plot; it seemed like things just randomly happened to the characters, rather than their having goals they wanted to accomplish. Also, while it was a relief not to have a "Mean Girls" character whose sole purpose is to make the protagonist miserable, it seemed odd not to portray the reaction to these two girls by their peers. Still, it was overall, a sweet book.

A Very Pivotal Book From My Adolescent Years

I was 15 when I first read this book (back in 1980) & it affected me very deeply. Until then I thought I was the only girl like me in the world & that I was somehow defective. Reading "Hey, Dollface" was a soul-satisfying revelation & gave me hope for my future. Truly, one of the ten most influential books of my life.

Excellent Introduction to the Cynefin Framework

Like the author, I've invested a lot of time reviewing ToC, systems thinking, lean, etc. Only recently have I taken an interest in Cynefin, and I've had some difficulty putting the pieces together from the various lectures and blog posts. This book filled in a number of blanks for me, and I think I have an idea about how to proceed with the concepts in my organization. Of particular importance was the focus on portfolio design for both Complex and Complicated domains (e.g., experiment design in Complex, importance of diversity/naivety in Complicated). There are many things I don't understand yet, but the foundation was helpfully provided in this book.

A Must Read for Film Camera Enthusiasts

This is a great book for anyone interested in enhancing their knowledge about film photography. I'd recommend it for anyone interested in purchasing and using a film camera. Just as the title suggests, this book is about the camera itself. There's a useful chapter on lenses that will help you decide which type of lens to buy for your shooting needs. Plus there's a good chapter on image management: how to compose shots to create visually interesting photographs.

I've read all three books in this series, and while they do lean on the technical side I still consider them essential references for film camera enthusiasts.

Excellent introduction to the camera

I bought this book after taking a photo class at a local community college and was attempting to start on the trail of becoming a serious amateur photographer. This book was _exactly_ what I needed.
It explains all the details of all the modern cameras you are likely to find. Small, Medium and Large format cameras. Think a pinhole camera is the best? It isn't, and the plusses and minuses of pinhole cameras are discussed in this book. He covers all forms of shutters. Range finders. Dual-lens cameras. Everything. If you are looking for an understanding of different cameras and their pros & cons, this is the book to get.
