Not bad, but a somewhat different technique than standard

The Technical Rescue Riggers Guide is a small, pocket sized wealth of information, similar to the CMC Rope Rescue Field Guide. Written by talented and proficient rescuers from the Pacicific Northwest, it advocates some somewhat non-standard (to the usual CMC / Rescue-3 / etc) school of thought, but has better descriptions of rigging highlines, etc than most field guides. Their recommendations for rope kits are probably the most complete (possibly overdone) I've ever seen, but their technique of color-coding webbing lengths certainly makes sense.
All in all a valuable addition to the rescuers library, and the techniques are worth considering by all rescue teams. All in all,

My Search and Rescue Technical Rigging Team Used This

This was the default field manual that my Search and Rescue technical rigging team used. It did a very good job, but I should note that the National Search and Rescue site, nasar.org, does not list this book in their Rope and Technical book section. They list CMC Rope Rescue Field Guide 4E.

I always found this book helpful, but it would have been great to have a few more basic knot illustrations. The book has several variations on bowlines, a butterfly knot, an "in line figure eight", a couple of bends, a munter hitch, clove hitch, triple wrap prussik hitch and a radium release hitch. That's a good start, but it would be great to have another 6-12 knots explained.

This does have good information about pulley systems (is it a 3:1, a 6:2? A compound 3:1? AAARRRGGGHHHH!) and a ton of information on litter packaging and handling. It also shows how to do knot passes, and has lots about vectors and slope angles, signaling, material strengths and anchor and belay systems.

There is also a similar hand-sized field manual for medicine, and you should have that in your pack, too.

Short but sophisticated

As expected this is a very short book. But within its scope, the discussions on the myriad topics are nuanced and captivating. A whole succinct chapter is devoted on why people commit crimes. The heavy interplay between the person and his milieu is very well and thoroughly explained. The concept and nature of the "insanity plea" is also explicated in layman terms. The book also demystifies the so called "profiling" process; it helps but plays a very small role in police work.

As a medical specialist I find the author's discussion on "personality disorders" particularly fascinating and relevant. He offers insight to these types of coniditions that I did not obtain from my medical school training.

The book also talks about the role of the forensic psychologist in helping offenders, victims, and law enforces to rehabilitate, to cope, and to work efficiently. The future of the discipline is also briefly discussed.

Outstanding summary

This is a much more dignified approach to summarizing whole disciplines than the "For Dummies" and other series. It's well written, informative, and comprehensive in spite of being "very short." I'll turn to this series for other summaries without hesitation. The only trouble is the small type - I know it's necessary in a small book, but mine aged eyes have to work hard while I read it.

Forensic Psychology

This is a short book as its sub title suggests but it gives a neat and concise overview of the subject. Many people will think from watching television drama and reading crime fiction that many cases are solved by bringing in a profiler but this is far from being the case. Forensic psychologists are becoming more and more involved with the criminal and judicial processes but in ways which were aren't as glamorous as fiction portrays.

Forensic psychologists work with convicted criminals to try and establish why crimes are committed, what personality and background factors lead people to commit crimes rather than stick to the straight and narrow. They can also advise on whether someone is mad or bad and whether it is possible to use a defence of insanity, and conversely what prevents a defence of insanity succeeding.

In the US forensic psychologists are becoming involved in selecting jurors to try and influence the outcome of a trial by selecting jurors because of their existing views. This is regarded as a step too far by many.

This is a fascinating overview of an interesting subject and it provides a list of further reading for those who want to take their interest further. If you want to read the real story - then read this book.

This is an excellent book for any iOS developer or enthusiast wanting to learn how to code an app from soup to nuts for iOS 9 using Swift. Matthijis shows great attention to detail. Everything is well explained and illustrated. Lots of detailed examples, lots of exercise (and all explained and answered) make this book very entertaining and educational. I enjoyed the way concepts were introduced. In particular, I loved his explanation of using enums to represent state in an app.

Overall, very satisfied. I highly recommend this title.

Awesome book. The author is very funny. He wrote a lot of joke that you would not feel boring when you read concepts. This book include all of details, explanations, images and even possible happened bugs. However, this book is not good for people who has swift experience. I strongly recommend you if you are new to IOS and want to start learning swift.

Great book for someone new to iOS and writing code. I'm 4 months new to code and iOS (with a high aptitude for learning) I see this book as a great jumping off point to building a foundation of knowledge to build upon. 100 pages in and everything makes sense.

Especially with describing some of the concepts I have learned in the past months as the data starts to sink in.

Anyone new to iOS this is a great book that takes you step by step. Which in my opinion is what every good teacher or tutorial based book should do.

Worthwhile Presentation, Nothing Really New

This book is well organized, concise, useful, and at times funny. It's a very quick and easy read. I like the way the author throws in a "personal stuff" section in each chapter where he illustrates his point with a personal story. I also liked the summary at the end of each chapter. This book does well what it intends to do and I enjoyed reading it. It's not a great book because there is nothing new here if you are well versed in decent self-help literature, but it is a very good presentation of a good system. Recommended.

Most of the short stories and poems in this book are very well-chosen and work wonderfully as a starting point for discussion and writing. Excellent discussion questions and writing topics. The best textbook of this genre that I have used.

Valuable ESL text

My students gain great insight into a different kind of reading in English through the wide range of stories and poems in this book. It is useful for idea-generation and introduction of various aspects of American history and culture. The lit-class style exercises don't have to be used in class, but if there's time, they can be a useful tool for building students' awareness of different levels of reading and language. I've used this text in my high intermediate academic writing/reading course for over 15 years. The works are timeless.
